Eurypanopeus depressus (flatback mud crab)

Occurrence. Eurypanopeus is one of the most common crabs on both Atlantic and Gulf Coasts and is especially abundant in estuaries, sometimes in low salinities. Other species of Eurypanopeus occur in the Gulf.

Biology and Ecology. Ovigerous females occur from spring to fall in the Carolinas. Zoeae were collected from May to October in North Carolina sounds at salinities as low as 12. Larvae occurred from April to October in northeastern Florida.
